Where am I?
How did I get to this place that I don’t know?
I am like a prodigal daughter whose deep longing for love caused her to stray away from home unconsciously.
Hypnotised by the con men who promised to see me,
Who promised to acknowledge me,
Who promised to give me life.
Walking with my eyes focused on them,
Unaware of where I was going,
I clung to my con men,
Toiled to make them happy.
They told me I was ugly.
They withheld their love when I displeased them.
They took pleasure in humiliating me.
But I stayed with them,
Hoping that they would fulfil their promise to fill me.
My arms grew weak from holding on to them.
I felt my spirit sap from me with every effort I made.
For a split second, I looked up to find the road back home.
It wasn’t there.
I turned to them to inquire, but they had vanished.
