Pepsi’s new advert featuring model Kendall Jenner and the song “Lions” from Skip Marley is facing backlash from many people who say that it appropriates the Black Lives Matter protests and various protests that took place before and after U.S. president Donald Trump’s election to power to sell soda.
The ad features a group of young people protesting, who are then joined by Jenner, who towards the end of the video, gives a policeman a Pepsi soda. Many have said that it mimics the widely shared photo of Black Lives Matter protester Ieshia Evans during the 2016 Baton Rouge protests against police brutality.

Pepsi has however chosen to stand by its decision on the advert, saying that it is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony.
Pepsi had pulled the advert after intense backlash for trivializing the Black Lives Matter movement.
