Actor Mahershala Ali gave a powerful acceptance speech at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards after winning the award for Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in the film “Moonlight”.
His speech shed light into the negative effects of discrimination, which include breaking up families and societies and perpetuating injustice. This comes against the backdrop of American president Donald Trump’s move to ban Muslim immigrants, a move which many Americans see as a form of discrimination.
Many actors, including Kerry Washington and Ashton Kutcher, took to the stage to show their support for immigrants and to denounce injustice and discrimination.
