IF YOU WERE A 90S BABY IN SOUTH AFRICA, YOU’LL RELATE TO THESE 25 THINGS ABOUT TECHNOLOGY

Technology is one of many things that constantly changes. If you were a 90s baby in South Africa, here are some technological throwbacks that will make you remember the good ol’ times.

Once upon a time, your family owned a phone directory

If you knew your crush’s surname, you probably searched for their phone number in the phone directory

And if you had balls, you called the number, only to have your crush’s mom or dad pick up the phone and demand to know your reason for calling

The home telephone was either in the lounge or the TV room, meaning that privacy when taking calls was non-existent

Your mom probably had a no-calls policy between 19:00 and 19:30 because that’s when the evening news was on. Everyone had to be silent during that time

You had a Nokia 3310, and you had the time of your life changing the phone’s look with personalized phone covers

You parents probably owned a Nokia 6110 cellphone, with the pouch, because it was considered as a business phone

You thought the Motorola V500 was cool because it was featured in all the spy and action movies

You loved sms’ing your friends. It allowed you the privacy that home telephone calls didn’t

You created emoticons using symbols and numbers when being fancy with SMS’s

And when you didn’t have enough airtime to send an SMS, you would send a ‘please call me’ message, and would even personalize it to convey the message you wanted the receiver to get

You experienced polyphonic ringtones

You played snake all day on your Nokia 3310

And you were the shit at Tetris

And taking pictures with your VGA cellphone camera made you feel like a celeb

You thought it was super cool to be able to store music on your phone and create a personalized playlist. You and your friends would always send songs to each other via Bluetooth

When Blackberry came in, it revolutionized communication through affordable data, resulting in easy access to the internet, Facebook, Twitter and email. BBM totally rocked your world.

How come no-one ever thought to take selfies with a Kodak camera? Aaaah… You couldn’t preview your pictures because they were saved on a film strip that needed to be processed at your local photo lab

Fax machines were in existence
